I'm getting cache errors saying 'cache was unable to write...'

Your cache folder app/tmp/cache is write protected or your hosting space has reached its disk space limit. First make sure your app/tmp folder and its subfolders are all writable and if the problem persists, clean up your hosting space. You might also upgrade your hosting package to a larger one instead.
